Currently, most of the meters in use are condensate meters. Once the steam used has lost its temperature, it condenses into water, which is then measured by the meters. This type of meter is mechanical and can sometimes require maintenance.
Concord Steam reads meters over a period of 3 working days at the end of each month. Depending on the calendar, these days may cross over a weekend, and result in readings taken up through the 3rd day of the month. Once the initial readings are reviewed, suspect readings are investigated and usage amounts are adjusted as necessary. Usage amounts are adjusted based on previous history using a value that represents the amount of steam used divided by the number of heating degree days in any one month. This value helps us to relate how cold it is to how much steam is used.
